Which coins were worth taking

Every coin taken in at least 20 swaps: how many times, how it did in total against what was given for it, what a typical swap came to, and how often the taker came out ahead. This is a two-year performance ranking of the network's coins, weighted by what people actually traded rather than by market cap. The total is in dollars, so a few large swaps can outweigh thousands of small ones; the typical swap and the share ahead are per swap, and when they disagree with the total that is why. LTC is the case in point: most of the people who took it are ahead, and a few who gave ZEC for it are not.

How long a swap takes

An atomic swap is not instant by design. Each side publishes a transaction and waits for the other chain to confirm it, so the time is set mostly by the block spacing of the two chains involved. A pair with slow blocks is slow for everyone, every time. Pairs with at least 100 completed swaps.

How often a swap fails

434 of 4,108 swaps, 10.56%, ended with nothing changing hands, by the swap's own protocol log. A further 116 had both payments on their chains but failed the final claim on the first attempt. Asked directly, the chain says 115 of those claims landed on a retry, 1 payments still sit uncollected in their contracts and 0 were refunded to the payer. The aggregator reports all of them as successful; only the saved record knows, so this counts only swaps a record exists for.

Which clients finish what they start

Two things decide whether a swap finishes, and neither is the device. An unattended bot fails about 1% of the time against 9.5% for the typical client a person drives, because a swap needs both sides online for its whole length and a person closes a lid or pockets a phone. A rate is shown with its margin where the sample is small enough for that to matter: 15 failures in 232 swaps is 6.5% give or take 3.2 points, which settles nothing against a client sitting at 4.0%. Fifty swaps is enough to list a client and not enough to rank one. Counted by the client the taker reported, for clients with at least 50 swaps. The first rate is every swap that did not finish; the second is the share that stopped on this client's own side, the rest being counterparties who never paid or never claimed. Where a swap failed and no record of where it stopped ever reached this site, it is counted in the first figure and cannot be in the second. Many older builds have almost no such records, so where fewer than half of a client's failures have a recorded stop the second column reports the coverage instead of a rate: Komodo Wallet 0.8.0-beta fails 60.8% of the time and nothing whatever is known about why. The split matters: a swap ends with each side spending the other's payment, so a stop named for the maker's payment is often the taker failing to take it, and the reverse. Stops nobody can be assigned are left out of the second figure rather than guessed at. The name is whatever the operator put in their own config and nothing checks it, so the quickstart defaults are left out along with the framework's own development tool: those count people who pasted an example, not software anyone chose.

Claims that were never made good

A swap ends with each side claiming the other's payment, and the side that claims is the opposite of the side that paid. Where that claim was rejected and never retried successfully, the payment is still sitting in its contract: 3 of them, across 3 markets. This is by the framework build that had to make the claim, counted against that build's other first-attempt failures, because three left unclaimed out of a hundred is a bad afternoon and three out of four is a broken build. Around one in thirty is the ordinary rate, where a taker simply never came back to retry. The coins are recoverable: the preimage becomes public the moment the first side claims, so the node that failed can collect once it is on a build that can.

What takers paid in fees

Every swap begins with the taker paying a fee, in the coin they are sending, to the network's fee address. The rule is the network's: one part in 777 on Komodo's 8762 (a tenth off when paid in KMD), one in 50 on GLEEC's 6133. This applies the rule to every successful swap and values the result at the coin's anchor on the day, or at the site's own reference price that day for a coin no aggregator prices. It is an estimate from the rule, not a reading of the fee transactions, which the saved records name for anyone who wants the exact figure. Where the fees go afterwards is not measured here.

What this is not

Not a judgement of anyone's trading. Every swap here was agreed at a fair rate on the day. Only what the market did afterwards separates the columns, and nobody knew that at the time.

Not precise for small coins. “Today's price” is the newest aggregator observation within a week, falling back to the SwapScope reference price. For a thin coin that is one number from one source, and every sum above inherits it.

Not complete. 408 of 3,675 completed swaps are left out: 62 on 17 pairs where the two sides are the same coin in two forms, which would measure the spread between two price sources rather than the market, and the rest involving a coin with no price in the last week. Those are excluded and counted rather than guessed at.

Not a sale. Every figure marks a holding at today's quoted price. That is close to what you would get for a coin as deep as LTC, and a long way from it for a thin one: selling what several hundred swaps gave in MAZA would move the price against you well before you were done. Two holdings marked at the same dollar value are not equally realisable, and a table of dollars cannot show the difference.
